Biography

Dr. Sampath Parthasarathy, Ph.D., MBA is an internationally known cardiovascular scientist who holds the UCF College of Medicine’s Florida Hospital Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences. Before joining the college’s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences November of 2011, He  held the Klassen Chair of Cardiothoracic surgery at Ohio State University.

He is a recognized expert in lipids who is credited with the co-discovery of a major cardiovascular concept - the fact that oxidized LDL is involved in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. His areas of interest include atherosclerosis, diabetes, heart failure, and cardiovascular nutrition.

Dr. Parthasarathy has a breadth of research experience, including studies on endometriosisand aspirin. He has published over 280 original articles and has won several meritorious awards. His work is extensively funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and AHA and he belongs to an elite group of the most highly cited authors worldwide in his field. He has served on numerous NIH/AHA committees and is a member of the editorial boards of many journals.

Dr. Parthasarathy received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science and did post-doctoral training at Duke University and the University of Minnesota. In addition to The Ohio State, he has served as a faculty at the University of California, San Diego, Emory University and Louisiana State University.
