Research Interest
As a researcher, he facilitated several research projects by conducting research in the field of food hygiene, public health, epidemiology and zoonotic diseases, and collaborated with Caribbean regional governments and international agencies on important areas related to Veterinary Public Health.
Scientific Activities
Taught graduate students in Animal Production at the Faculty of Agriculture, and in the related field of Veterinary Public Health at the School of Veterinary Medicine, both at the University of the West Indies; also taught fourth and final (5th) year veterinary students in Public Health/Zoonoses, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, Community/Environmental Health, Preventive Medicine and Food Hygiene, and assisted in clinical rotation of students in Meat Hygiene, Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of the West Indies, while tutoring also Year I Human Medical Students in the School of Medicine, and Years I to V Veterinary Medical Students, stimulating cooperative behavior among the students and monitoring the students’ progress in the acquisition of appropriate knowledge and reasoning skills.
Presenting advisories to Meat, Poultry, and Fish Industries on all matters pertaining to food safety and food security, and quality control; assisting other para-professional institutions such as the National Institute of Higher Education Research and Training (NIHERST) and the Regional Programme for Animal Health Assistants (REPAHA) in Guyana; advising private industry e.g. Nestlé on milk hygiene practices; serving as Principal Veterinary Advisor to the Antibiotic Advisory Committee, the Drug Advisory Committee, and the Food Advisory Committee of Trinidad and Tobago; serving as a resource veterinary personnel to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Fish Inspection and the application of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) System in Fish Inspection in Trinidad and Tobago.
