Clinical Experience:

  1. House Officer:
This one-year rotation offered a wide range of experience in various branches of dentistry.  My duties involved basic dental treatments in different departments.  The on-call commitment was 1 in 3, first on call.
  2. Three year Residency in Oral Surgery (Cairo University)
Duties of this job included minor oral surgical procedures under local anaesthesia and conscious sedation. It also provided opportunity for assessment and treatment of severe oral and circum-oral infections with special interest in drug abusers and immuno-compromised patients.  The on-call commitment was 1 in 3, second on-call.
  3. Higher surgical trainee in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
I have gained experience in the diagnosis and clinical management of a wide range of cases treated at Canniesburn Hospital.  I have assisted and participated in the surgical management of various cases under the supervision of the consultant trainers.
  4. Honorary Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
I shared the on-call duties in 1 in 5 rota with the rest of the maxillofacial surgeons for 10 years (1999-2009). I trained Maxillofacial, Oral Surgery, and Surgical Dentistry trainees in Scotland.   I have a weekly full day operating session which enables me and my team to treat patients with facial deformities.  This is complimented with a multidisciplinary dentofacial deformity clinic which is the basis of my clinical research. I lead the academic department in providing research facilities and the needed supervision for my NHS colleagues and I encourage the specialist registrars to conduct research projects and register for postgraduate research degrees.
