Biography

Dr. Green, professor of orthopaedics, chief of the division of sports medicine, works with athletes at all levels, from "weekend warriors" to professionals. He is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery with a subspecialty board certification in orthopaedic sports medicine. He commonly performs arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder, elbow hip, knee and ankle. His research interests focus on knee and shoulder instability and arthroscopic skill development.

He grew up in Fort Wright, KY, a small town outside of Cincinnati and was awarded an athletic scholarship to play for the University of Cincinnati. After earning four varsity letters in football, he received both a BA in Psychology and his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati. His internship and residency took place at Michigan State University followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center. He practiced for 5 years at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport prior to becoming the chief of sports medicine at the University of Washington. There, he cared for the intercollegiate athletes, serving as football team surgeon for over a decade before being recruited to San Antonio.

Education has always been important in Dr. Green’s family. His father was the first in his family to go to college and mentored all eight children through undergraduate school, with three earning advanced degrees. Resident and fellow education has been Dr. Green’s passion. Among the awards he has received, he is most proud of his resident teaching award.

He has been recognized for outstanding clinical care by multiple local and national organizations. Among those include: Seattle Met’s top doctors, who’s who, and America’s top physicians and surgeons. He is also actively involved in sports medicine research; focusing on knee and should instability and arthroscopic skill development. Dr. Green was awarded the prestigious American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine traveling fellowship to Latin America in 2005. His editorial responsibilities have included the Department of Defense, Arthroscopy, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, American Journal of Sports Medicine, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Green is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), Fischbone Society, Magellan Society, and the Orthopaedic Research Society, serving on a number of committees and in multiple leadership roles.
