Prof. Dr. Mercedes Villacampa was born in Madrid. She studied Pharmacy and Optics at UCM. For her PhD thesis, she worked on the synthesis of natural product-based serotonin analogues. After postdoctoral studies with Professor Nicholas Bodor (University of Florida, Gainesville, 1990-1991), she obtained a position of Profesor Titular (Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry) at the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Department, UCM. She has also done postdoctoral work at the laboratory of Professor Kendall N. Houk (University of California at Los Angeles, UCLA, 1999). Her research interests include computational chemistry and the development of new synthetic methodologies, including multicomponent reactions, for their application to the preparation of bioactive heterocycles.
Head of the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Department, UCM, 2006-2010. Erasmus Delegate, School of Pharmacy, UCM, 2011-2014.
