Biography

Mark has been involved in forensic science education and research at De Montfort University for over 10 years following a long career in research.

Mark was programme leader for the Forensic Science Batchelors degree programme at De Montfort University for seven years before becoming a Teacher Fellow and concentrating more fully on improving the student learning experience.  Mark chairs the Programme Management Board which oversees the Forensic science degree programme (and the pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science degree) and has recently become an Associate Head of the Leicester School of Pharmacy.

Mark has considerable experience as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate provision and also as an examiner for research degrees.

His research interests include food and medicinal plant product authentication and fingerprint recovery and enhancement techniques as well as graduate employability and open educational resources.


Research Interest

  1. The use of DNA methods for authentication in the areas of herbal medicines/medicinal plants and food stuffs.
  2. Forensic science education.
  3. Fingerprint recovery from difficult surfaces and the relationship to environmental conditions.
  4. DNA evidence, longevity and issues associated with transfer of DNA.
  5. Regulation of cell division in eukaryotes and the role of novel cyclin-dependent kinases.
