Biography

Dr. Abdel-Mageed is a professor of urology and pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine and Zimmermann professor of cancer research at Tulane Cancer Center. Dr. Abdel-Mageed received a D.V.M. from the University of Khartoum, Sudan and M.S. and Ph.D. in molecular physiology/toxicology from Kansas State University before joining Tulane as a faculty member. His translational research focuses on molecular determinants of cancer progression. Some of his recent research has been focused on the role of stem cell biology in regenerative medicine and in mediating cancer progression through interaction with tumor-derived microvesicles. Dr. Abdel-Mageed research is supported by multiple grants from National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), American Cancer Society (ACS).
Dr. Abdel-Mageed received numerous awards during his academic career, and his research is marked with track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings. Dr. Abdel-Mageed has served on several study sections, including NIH, DoD and ASC as well as a number of international grant review panels (e.g. Qatar National Foundation, Italian Academy of Sciences, Singapore Medical Research Council).
