Research Interest

My research interests have focused on developing a set of standard efficacy data points/elements specific to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) for evaluating its progression. Using the resulting PKD data standard, models will be constructed so as to determine if there is a predictable linkage between renal size or other biomarkers and decline in renal function. We have developed and validated a practical imaging classification of autosomal dominant PKD (ADPKD), based on height adjusted kidney volume and age, that can be used to select the most appropriate patients for clinical trials and identify patients with progressive disease likely to benefit from an effective therapy.  In addition, I have been involved in several projects aimed to develop a more accurate and automated method for measuring total renal volume, and computing parenchymal and cyst volume and testing the suitability of other imaging modalities such as diffusion MRI, blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) MRI and Magnetization transfer imaging as new imaging tools to monitor ADPKD progression.
